TATA IIML INNOVISION
2003
|
November 2003
|
The Innovision Committee at IIM Lucknow is
pleased to announce TATA IIML Innovision to be held on November 25th
& 26th, 2003. Innovision was among the first paper writing
competition to be envisioned in B schools in India attracting more
than 600 students from 46 B-Schools last year. Christened TATA IIML
INNOVISION since 2001, it signifies the close association of TATA
group with Innovision. The TATA group is not only a sponsor of the
event but also an active participant in the final evaluation
process.
The topic for TATA IIML Innovision-2003 is:
India Inc: Expanding Horizons, Managing
Expectations
A decade ago, when India embarked upon the journey of economic
reforms, to most Indian companies, the term globalization meant
competing with large global MNCs on home turf. It was a question of
fighting to protect their products, their market share and even
their survival in the Indian market.
Ten years on, When we look at globalization, a significant shift in its
meaning is observed. It is no longer just about traditional Indian
exports like agri based products, textile & readymade garments, we
also see a considerable number of Indian companies in auto,
petroleum, iron & steel, minerals & metal, electronics, software,
outsourcing services, paints, chemical, cosmetics and pharmaceutical
sector selling in international markets. Indian companies are no
longer talking about competing just in India but are moving to other
markets with their products and setting up overseas manufacturing
facilities. In fact many are even acquiring international firms.
Papers are invited in any of the following areas:
Strategy
Marketing
Finance
Operations
HR
Economics
Systems
The idea is not to limit the creativity and analytical capabilities of
participants within a given set of boundaries but to let them roam
freely into any chosen functional area while looking into various
critical issues that need to be addressed for ensuring a successful
overseas venture for Indian organisations.

IIML Innovision website
Until last year INNOVISION gave an opportunity to management students to
come forth and express their views on topics of contemporary
relevance. The best of these views were given an enraptured audience
who admired the tremendous thinking, cogitating and articulating
abilities of potential business leaders. But that still left a lot
to be desired.
Every year, INNOVISION left the entranced audience with too many unanswered
questions. Every year, INNOVISION left the potential leaders and
thinkers with unpolished edges. They craved for more knowledge, more
insights, more questions, more answers. This year, INNOVISION, will
go beyond the horizons of a paper-writing competition and venture
into the business world. INNOVISION, this year will also invite the
leaders of today to meet the leaders of tomorrow. Along with the
presentation of the best papers received from across B-Schools of
India, INNOVISION will also be visited by keynote speakers. These
speakers, the leaders of the business world, will address the
audiences on the topic selected by management students. It will
prove be a complete coverage of the topic at hand. Business leaders,
the achievers who have seen it, experienced it, done it and
conquered it will share their experiences with the aspiring leaders
of tomorrow, and indeed, with one another. All questions now will be
answered.
This new and improved format will give not only the participants, but also
the entire IIML community an opportunity to gain perpetually sought
after insights into the business world, and into the minds of great
leaders who have struck gold.

New Website
The
new look IIM L website is to be launched on the 4th of September.
The new website developed completely in-house by the student Webteam
has been designed to enhance the navigability and flow of information.
New features include an e-community section with services such as
web-mail, chat, BBS and people finder.
Exam Fever
Here at IIML every 5 weeks people go into a high. And as expected
the exam season is here again, right on time. The pgp2 's are having
their end term examinations from the 2nd of September to the 8th
of September to be followed by the pgp1's end-sem's from the 17th
September . And all of a sudden there seems to be that much more
urgency to all activities: people are walking faster, there are
fewer discussions over mess, and everyone is sleeping a lot lesser.
Football kicks off….
The football season starts next week with the inaugural match between
PGP1 and PGP2s on the 13th of August. The students presently residing
in the FPM accommodation have been included as a separate hostel,
which makes a total of eleven teams. The round robin matches will
be played in three groups. The key teams to watch out for are Hostels
7 and 8 which have a lot of promising talent from the PGP Is and
the reigning champions Hostel 9 Tops. Watch out this space for more
coverage of the matches as the tournament progresses.
Abhivyakti Music Workshop
The Music workshop being organized by Abhivyakti will have another
one-hour session on ‘Bandishes’ by Prof. P. R. Banerjee. The class
will focus on recitals of these short compositions in Hindustani
Classical music.
Independence Day Celebrations
The Institute will be celebrating the Independence Day on the morning
of 15th August with a formal ceremony in the morning. The proceedings
will be initiated by a speech from the Director Dr. Pritam Singh
followed by a street play by the PGP students.
