Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Executives (WMP) 2018-2020

The Post Graduate Diploma Program in Management for Working Executives, also known as the Working Managers Program (WMP) was launched in 2005. The 14th Batch of WMP has been recast as a twenty-one month program in line with global executive MBA programs.

The participants are required to stay at the Executive Centre, Noida Campus, during their fortnightly visits for classes held on a flexible schedule from Friday afternoon/evening to Sunday afternoon/evening, which ensures experiencing the full rigour of an on-campus MBA. Twenty two visits are required in a year. Over the seven terms across 21 months, there will be 840 hours of coursework leading to 28 course credits. Further, there is a mandatory International Module with one-credit course work at a top business school, possibly in Europe.

The Programme is designed to provide a journey in learning, which prepares one to take up greater management challenges and responsibilities. The Student Advisory Services provided by the Institute to this batch offers guidance on charting a learning path, and leveraging events and networking, which enable the participant to meet career aspirations.

About IIM Lucknow and IIM Lucknow-Noida Campus

The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIML), established in the year 1984, undertakes a diverse range of academic activities aimed at creation, dissemination and application of management knowledge and practice. In 2005, IIM Lucknow launched its second campus with the vision of enabling executive education and research.

The IIM Lucknow NOIDA Campus (IIML-NC) has developed as a centre of excellence in providing executives with variety of programs at the master’s and doctoral levels, such as WMP, IPMX, PGP-Sustainability Management, and Executive FPM, WMP being the first program to be launched at this campus.

Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (WMP)

As part of the mission of NOIDA campus, in July 2005 IIM Lucknow launched the Post-Graduate Programme in Management for Working Executives, also popularly known as Working Managers’ Programme (WMP). The program has been restructured completely in line with global trends to cater to the needs and aspirations of the working executive for a formal education in management that can serve as a springboard for career progression, leading to developing greater managerial effectiveness and leadership qualities. The restructured 14th batch will commence from April/May, 2018.

The WMP curriculum focuses on a strategic understanding of business, rooted in practical skill-development through action-oriented learning via projects and industry interface. A core component of the programme is a study module at one of our partner institutes located in Europe.

The Student Advisory Services at the Institute is available for guiding students for career development choices and would also support student initiated events for enhancing interaction, learning and networking. On successful completion of the course, students are awarded the Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Working Executives.

Programme Objectives

The overall goals of the programme are to broaden core managerial competencies to enhance the professional growth of students. The specific objectives of the programme are to:

  • Provide students with the fundamental principles of effective management of modern business organizations.
  • Help participants develop understanding of the roles and responsibilities of business managers in an increasingly global nature of social and economic orders and corporate operations.
  • Sharpen diagnostic and analytical skills of participants for effective decision-making in complex business situations.
  • Sensitise students to the issues of cultural diversity and develop skills for effective management within multi-cultural work environments.
  • Strengthen strategic leadership and team working skills.

Eligibility Criteria

Note that the eligibility criteria for joining the programme are:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline or an equivalent academic pursuit (i.e., 10+2+3) in any discipline recognized by: a) the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), b) UGC, or c) Ministry of Human resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

A minimum of 50% aggregate marks or, a CGPA of 5.50 on a 10-point scale (45% aggregate marks or, a CGPA of 5.00 on a 10-point scale for SC/ST/PWD categories) is required.

  • Scores for any of the following tests taken:
  • GMAT score for the test taken between April 1, 2013 and January 31, 2018
  • CAT/ XAT/GATE score for the test taken from the year 2016 onwards
  • WMP Entrance Exam scheduled on March 11, 2018 (at IIML Noida Campus)
  • A minimum of 3 years of full-time post-qualification (i.e., after graduation) professional work experience as on February 28, 2018

Selection Process

The selection of candidates is based on:

  • Duly filled-in Application Form (Candidates may apply online or download the Application Form available under the Admissions tab in the WMP section on the IIM Lucknow website).
  • Scores of any one of the tests (as mentioned in the Eligibility Criteria section).
  • Managerial and/or Professional Experience Certificate (a minimum of 3 years of full-time post-qualification (after graduation) experience as on February 28, 2018)
  • Personal Interview

Course Structure

The WMP comprises seven terms over 2 years, starting from April/May 2018.

  • During the first four terms (terms I to IV) Foundation Courses will be conducted and each term comprises seven visits. Each visit will be held at every alternative week from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.
  • During term V, five campus visits will be required to complete 2.5 credits on campus. Additionally, Term V also contains 7-9 days of the International Module where one credit equivalent will be completed.
  • Terms VI and VII will require seven and six visits respectively. The last two terms will also be allotted for dissertation work, which has to be presented by the end of Term VII.

Time to Complete the Programme

In the normal course, the program is completed in two years. However, students who fail to meet the prescribed minimum attendance or academic standards due to extenuating circumstances may be allowed two more continuous years if the WMP Committee so recommends, and can complete the Programme in a total of four years (maximum overall duration).

Class Schedule

Sessions will be conducted every fortnight (i.e., on alternate weeks). Typical class timings will be:

  • Friday afternoon/evening onwards;
  • From 9.00 am on Saturdays and Sundays;
  • There will be approximately 18 hours of classroom learning during each visit.

Boarding and lodging will be provided within the campus from Friday morning to Sunday evening.

International Module:

A 7 to 9-day immersive experience at one of the leading business schools in Europe adds to the content of the program. The International Module is designed to enhance cross-cultural experience and broaden the understanding of global management challenges, where a deeper insight is obtained about business procedures in overseas markets. The International Module comprises academic courses, workshops, industry visits and interactions with industry leaders.

Student Advisory Services and Corporate Interface Events

The Student Advisory Services helps prepare candidates meet career goals and aspirations. The advisors would guide students on the choice of electives, events, and networking opportunities. Such assistance will help participants to springboard their careers and add substantial value to the organizations where they work.

Fee Structure

The fee for WMP 2018-2020 is INR 12,65,000 which includes tuition, cost of course material, library, computer facilities, cost of international emersion, international travelling, student activities and mess charges. Participants will stay at the Executive Center at the Noida Campus.

The fee also includes the cost of academic inputs, travel, visa and stay during the International Module. Expenses for boarding and other incidentals like local transport, Internet, telephone, stationery, among others, during the International Module, are to be borne by the student.

The WMP is run over seven terms. The term fee for Term I to III, VI and VII will be Rs. 1, 30,000/- (Rupees One Lakhs Thirty Thousand only)

The term fee for Term IV and V, which includes international module will be Rs. 2,97,500/- (Rupees Two Lakhs Ninety Seven Thousand Five Hundred only) [Term Fee Rs. 1, 30,000/- + International module 3, 35,000 divided equally in the two terms]

In addition to this, there would be an Alumni Membership Fee of Rupees Five thousand only (INR 5,000/-) and Students Activities fee Rupees Ten thousand only (INR 10,000/-) paid as a onetime fee, during the first term registration. Further, candidates also need to deposit an additional amount of Rupees Five thousand only (INR 5,000/-) as a refundable security deposit payable at the time of admission. This would be refunded after deduction of any dues/liabilities at the time of leaving the programme. The Convocation fee of Rupees Five thousand only (INR 5,000/-) would be payable at the beginning of the seven term, in addition to the requisite term fees.
